How To Check If A Maintenance Contractor Has An Active SFG20 License
Staying aware of maintenance tasks mandated by law is one thing, but how can you be sure that any third-party stakeholders you’re working with ALSO have access to the latest SFG20 standard in line with up-to-date legislation?
As a solution to this problem, SFG20 have released an official, publicly available Member List alongside Digital Badges which show you who has an active SFG20 license.
This article will tell you how you can access and use this list to quickly and easily find out if the Service Providers/Contractors you’re working with have an active license with SFG20.
SFG20’s Official Member List And Digital Badges
While screening Service Providers/Contractors who are bidding for your tender, always refer to SFG20’s Member List.
You can rely on this up-to-date list to find out which companies have an active SFG20 license and therefore have access to SFG20’s building maintenance schedules and individual tasks aligned with current legislation, regulations and best practices. To find the organisation you’re looking for, simply use the search bar.
You’ll also be able to see who has access to Facilities-iQ, SFG20’s latest and greatest software solution which allows you to create highly tailorable (as well as easily/safely sharable) Maintenance Regimes and put our standard into practice. Just look for the Facilities-iQ logo to the right of each company’s tab!
What's more, we now offer Digital Badges to those with an active SFG20 license which can be displayed on their website as concrete proof. This badge is not an image, but rather a live iFrame which means it cannot be copied, modified or deleted.
This Digital Badge is not only available for those with an active license who are bidding on contracts, but also for those who are tendering, helping to connect you with other active license holders.
Does The SFG20 Member List And Digital Badge Guarantee That A Contractor Is Compliant?
An active SFG20 subscription (or an external Collaborate license in Facilities-iQ as assigned by you) DOESN’T guarantee that Service Providers/Contractors are following SFG20’s latest maintenance guidance information as outlined in our schedules and tasks.
However, it DOES prove that they are an official SFG20 client and therefore more than capable of complying with the standard.
For peace of mind, you may wish to make an active SFG20 license mandatory for Service Providers and Contractors within your contract agreements. That way, you’ll be able to uphold accountability and lower risks for everyone.
Free Downloadable PDFs Aren’t Enough
As the SFG20 standard is updated monthly by our in-house technical team in line with the latest legislation, it’s likely that any Service Provider/Contractor who is not on our Member List and doesn't hold a Digital Badge will unknowingly be following old, legally obsolete guidance.
This out-of-date information is most commonly obtained via free downloadable PDFs found on the internet which carry multiple consequences including non-compliance, making them an absolute no-no.
An SFG20 license does not permit the sharing or distribution of SFG20 content publicly and the use of any unlicensed content downloaded from the internet is NOT permitted.
Know Your Responsibilities
It’s important for Building Owners and Property Managers to understand that outsourcing maintenance work to Service Providers/Contractors does not mean that you can abdicate the responsibility and indeed any risks.
Put simply, if anything goes wrong (either by your own account or because your chosen contractor was following out-of-date guidance), this will ultimately link back to the building owner.
From Building Owners and Facility/Property Managers to Service Providers and Contractors, everyone has their own non-negotiable set of responsibilities as outlined below.

Building maintenance compliance should be like clockwork in that everything and everyone involved (both internally and externally) needs to be slotted into the right places. You can think of it like this: if one cog breaks down, the rest of the clock will stop working.
Now that you know about our official Member List and Digital Badges, you’ll never need to worry about whether your Service Providers or Contractors have access the latest version of the standard ever again.
